The Largest Structure, Incallajta
Details of the Construction

This hard to reach Inka sire is generally considered to be the largest in Bolivia after Tiwanaku.  It is about 130 km east of Cochabamba, well below the desiccating, cold winds that sweep the high altiplano.  It took us the better part of a day of mostly overland travel to locate it, especially since the directions in the Lonely Planet Guide were rather less than accurate. The site is above a small river in an area well suited for farming. The central structure, shown in the top two images, is reputed to have been the largest single building (in terms of useable interior floor area with no dividing walls) constructed in the Western Hemisphere before the arrival of Europeans.  The largest pre-Conquest building in terms of total volume is probably Huaca del Sol in Peru.
