“In front of the Casa Grande is a structure, strikingly different from any we had seen ... having the appearance of a New England factory. Along the middle of the roof, unsupported, and entirely independent of anything else, rises a perpendicular wall to the height of perhaps thirty feet.”

The close correspondence between the engraving and the photograph is evident, even to the number and placement of the openings in the roof comb. Since Catherwood drew the lower part of the building as if in deep shade, this part of the building cannot be meaningfully compared with the photograph.
