Sayil - El Mirador, side view
"Along the middle of the roof, unsupported, and entirely independent of anything else, rises a perpendicular wall to the height of perhaps thirty feet.”
This nearly edge-on view of the roof comb shows a projecting cornice part way up on the left side. Also visible are many projecting stones, which, as for the Mirador at Labna, may have supported sculptures and other decorative elements. Their presence together with that of the cornice suggests that what is now referred to as the “rear” (the side in this image) may have actually been the front!
